The Candy Cane Which Saved Christmas

My little sister Zoe gave me permission a long, long time ago to post this classic example of her drawing skill. So long ago that she probably doesn’t recall… so nobody tell her, hmmkay?

This drawing resulted from the two of us watching a badly animated holiday movie with the same title. I don’t recall any specific scenes, but the movie did change my position on the question of giant, bespectacled holiday treats and covered wagon driving privileges. From this rendering, it should be quite apparent that the candy cane is having no difficulty with the horse. Its entire journey may be spent in comfortable contemplation of a portable Christmas tree.

Flipping the drawing of the candy cane over, one encounters this magnificent thing. Please note the details in this piece: tiny bows which tie the sections of the stair-step legs together, a maniacal leer, and a rickety, leg-propelled platform which further lengthens the creature’s graceful form.

(That thing it’s clutching like some grotesque doll? She said that was supposed to be me. Yes — in this image, I am the advisory ice cream cone.)

Toy Cars: 1983 Matchbox Porsche 959

This was once my favorite model of car. I’ve since moved on to idolizing the Lotus Esprit Turbo — primarily because it made an unforgettable appearance in the excellent first volume of Diane Duane’s So You Want To Be A Wizard? series.
