Site 12: Annotations

The U.S.S. Macon originally carried three experimental Fairchild K-3C aerial cameras for the purpose of mapping and reconnaissance. The attached images are copies made from the annotated color positive rolls recovered by the crew of the airship after crash landing off Point Sur, California in 1935. These images are part of the extant FORTUNE BLACK IDOL corpus.

Of particular note is the photograph of the ‘igneous intrusion’. We are unable to confirm the existence of this distinctive geologic feature in any current survey map or authoritative record. Given the size and configuration of the land form captured in the photograph — as well as the anomalies noted on the film –there is a high probability that this is the entrance to the ‘Kalopsian Abyssal’.
